An all mountain style tour, a beautiful crossing starting from St.Moritz and arriving in Chiavenna.
We start from the ski slopes of St. Moritz, at an altitude of 2050, which we reach with a shuttle from Chiavenna and, on a slightly uphill dirt road, we reach Alp Suvretta.
From here we start to descend first on a wide and fast trail, then cross a small bridge over the valley and continue on a more technical, natural style trail.
After a while, the path begins to climb, while still remaining quite pedalable. From here you can enjoy a wonderful view over the entire Lower Engadine and its lakes.
Now let's go back down, the first real descent of the day, a fast trail that is difficult at times, but with some technical passages on fixed rocks that will make us have fun!
We end up on the road that goes up from Silvaplana to Passo Julier (altitude 2280 m), which we will reach by climbing the last 4.5 km.
From here, we descend on a path, alternating at times with the main road, which also has some uphill climbs, until we reach Bivio (altitude 1800 m).
We begin the main climb of the day, the one along a beautiful gravel road that climbs for 7 km and takes us to the Septimer pass (altitude 2300 m).
The Septimer or Settimo or Pass da Sett was used in Roman times to connect Chiavenna and Lake Como (therefore Milan and the Po Valley) with Chur, capital of Rhaetia. The road, although rather difficult, allowed crossing the Alps with a single ascent and descent.
We then begin what is a descent "immersed in history", sections of mule track with fast parts alternating with slower and more technical ones, with narrow hairpin bends, where the mule track has, in somen places, disappeared.
We will descend the last stretch of Val Marotz until we reach Casaccia, at an altitude of 1400 m, and we will ride along the whole Val Bregaglia though dirt roads, single trails and some stretches of cycle path to reach Chiavenna.
