An epic day in the mountains of the Upper Spluga Valley!
We start from Montespluga (altitude 1900 m) and cycle to the Splügenpass (2115 m). This is where our first trail of the day begins, a descent that follows part of the Via Spluga, the ancient Roman road that connected Milan with Lindau.
When we reach Montespluga, we skirt the lake of the same name and climb up a dirt track to reach the top of the Andossi ridge, a moraine ridge that rises from Madesimo.
We then take a path that runs around a widen amphitheatre overlooking the valley below and which leads us to the unspoilt Lake Emet, the final part of which requiring particular attention, given its exposure (some obligatory walking).
Arriving at the lake, we can enjoy a coffee break at the "Rifugio Bertacchi" before embarking on the descent to Madesimo over natural terrain including several steps.
The second part of our day begins here, riding on the trails of the "Madebike Park" with the possibility of having lunch in one of the mountain huts in the area.
Our final endeavour of the day as we make our way back to Montespluga will be riding the 4 km of dirt track up the Andossi ridge, which will be rewarded with an excellent "Spluga Beer" in good company!
